COLUMBUS, Ohio (July 25, 2022) – Destination Basketball, an event proprietor for elite Division 1 women’s basketball tournaments, has announced its partnership with sports blockchain, cryptocurrency and non-fungible token (NFT) leader, TNNS Pro.
The partnership between Destination Basketball and TNNS Pro marks the first cryptocurrency and blockchain alliance in all of Division 1 women’s basketball. TNNS, which was founded in 2021 by former ATP tennis star Tsolak Gevorkian and blockchain expert Nicholas Williams, was formed with one simple goal in mind: build a better future for sports by alleviating athletes of the heavy financial burden associated with traveling and competing at the highest level. In addition to its blockchain technology upon which the TNNS cryptocurrency was formed, TNNS Pro is also an industry leader in sports NFT collections and mixed reality.
“We are incredibly excited to partner with TNNS to provide a better future for athletes all over the Country, particularly in women’s basketball. TNNS is a game changer for athletes and will also allow us at Destination Basketball to enhance the experience of each participant and team competing in our events. TNNS is an avid supporter of women’s sports and a perfect partner as we look to take women’s basketball, on the event side, to the next level,” said Bryce McKey, founder and CEO of Destination Basketball.
TNNS will have exclusive rights to Destination Basketball themed NFT’s. Each Destination Basketball-themed digital NFT trading card pack will feature top moments from all tournaments, including highlights, all-tournament features, and discount codes for sports-related merchandise.
The NFT marketplace will accept traditional forms of payment, such as USD-based debit and credit card, or the TNNS token. Completing a full Destination Basketball NFT collection will unlock rewards and increase the owners’ NFT values. All NFTs can be purchased and resold directly on the TNNS NFT marketplace or through the Destination Basketball website.
“As a student athlete, you’re required to find balance in your life, at a much younger age compared to regular college students and you’re expected to mature or be overwhelmed by what’s coming your way." said Gevorkian. "To become a top athlete requires time, commitment and carefully planned training. Optimum adaptation to training requires the careful balancing of stress and recovery. The student athlete has to balance all these demands with the additional requirements of an academic programme. This can bring unique stresses and challenges mentally, emotionally and financially.” added Gevorkian, who knows first-hand the challenges of managing a career as a Division 1 student-athlete.
TNNS Pro will also be providing educational sessions in groups and on individual bases for any Destination Basketball athlete who wants to further her knowledge of this emerging asset class. TNNS’ educational efforts are led by former Division 1 basketball player and long-time coach, Lisa Faulkner, who joined the TNNS team after roaming women’s basketball sidelines for over two decades.
“It’s exciting to be able to educate and help athletes in a tangible way. Blockchain technology and decentralization will revolutionize the way we interact in the world and I am thrilled to be the bridge between the athletic world and Web 3.0.” said Coach Faulkner.
NFT collectors can sign up now to receive email updates about the first Destination Basketball drop, which will occur around the new year once all events are completed. Destination Basketball kicks off its 2022 campaign in Daytona Beach, FL and Las Vegas, NV with two Thanksgiving events, followed by marquee matchups in West Palm Beach, Las Vegas and San Diego that will precede the December holiday season.
